Unlike usual, the sporty on Wednesday evening in the Borussia Park in front of 20,223 spectators was not the focus – at least on the part of Borussia Mönchengladbach. Because the Bundesliga club sent “an important sign of solidarity” with the test game against Ukraine: the income of the game goes out to people and in Ukraine.
Also in the Ukraine, aspects of solidarity and humanity were at the top in view of the war at home: the former boxing world champion Vladimir Klitschko, brother of the Mayor of Kiev Witali, spoke by video to the audience. For the Eastern Europeans, it was the first international match since the beginning of the war acts at home-and thus also a high-end test on the upcoming World Cup play-off game on June 1st against Scotland.
Accordingly, there were also a number of well -known names in the starting eleven of the Ukrainians. The starting XI consisted of players from Dynamo Kyiv such as Serhiy Sydorchuk, Mykola Shaparenko, Vitaliy Buyalskyi or Schachtar Donetsk such as Yukhym Konoplia, Taras Stepanenko and Mykhaylo Mudryk. The most important Ukrainian professionals were still missing abroad, however, since league operations in the large European leagues are still running. In comparison to the 1-1 in Frankfurt, Coach Adi Hütter brought seven new players: Sommer, Ginter, Elvedi, Herrmann, Reitz, Scally and Noß began for Sippel, Beyer, Bensebaini, Lainer, Neuhaus, Netz and Embolo.
The Ukrainians, who were able to convert their initial dominance into the leadership, got better into the lead. After a long ball from the midfield, Mudryk was faster than the ginter that was too hesitant. Mudryk also cured summer and pushed a casual one to 1-0 (9th). Just three minutes later, Mudryk was on the spot again, but this time summer was on the post at the long -range shot (12th).
Only then did the Borussia find better into the game, Noss equalized in the 13th minute for the Borussia. A small print phase of the Gladbacher followed, but Pleas’s goal was not recognized in the 30th minute due to an offside position. Then it was the Ukrainians who took command again: in added summer against Shapareko with a brilliant act from the break (45.+2).

The agile goal scorer Mudryk once again provided a first dangerous situation, but Ginter was able to clarify his cross in the 52nd minute.
Ukraine remained more active, but it took the end of the game to cheer again until the Eastern Europeans were allowed to cheer again. After a nice combination, the substitute PICHALIONOK pulled out dry with left and hit the right lower toreck (82nd). Ukraine could have even increased until the final whistle, but Sippel was on the post at a long -range shot, the subsequent margin passed on the right (90th).
