Trainer Xavi has criticized the ticket assignment in the defeat of the FC Barcelona against Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt had “felt at home,” said the 42-year-old after 2: 3 (0: 2) of the Catalans in the quarter-final return match of the Europa League: “Of course, that did not help. This is a planning error.”
Around 30,000 Frankfurt fans had put the Catalan city in an emergency status before the kick-off. In the stadium, tens of thousands of Eintracht supporters provided a total of 79,468 spectators for a fabulous mood, numerous fans of the Hesse had also bought tickets outside the guest block.
“We want to know what happened. When we play at home, that can not happen,” Xavi said. The former professional compared the situation with a finale in which one half of the stadium for the one, the other half for the other team was. “That was disappointing,” he said.
Barcas President Joan Laporta also showed himself outraged. “I’m worried, because what happened was a shame that can not be repeated,” he said, announcing a work-up: “We will take action, because that’s shameful.”
Frankfurt’s board member Axel Hellmann, on the other hand, defended the responsible persons at Barcelona. “There is no foul for FC Barcelona,” he said, “Our fans are most creative to get themselves on all tickets. That was the way and will always be like that.”
